AT A SEAFOOD EXPO IN BARCELONA: Fished provides the seafood industry with software to work smarter with more profit.
When Fished set out to scale their development capacity, they knew traditional hiring might prove too risky. The solution was an external team in Dhaka through Cefalo, and it hit the mark.
– From seafood data to smarter decisions
Fished is a growing technology company with roots in the seafood industry. They develop software that helps seafood companies streamline processes, reduce costs, and make smarter decisions. With an increasing number of customers and features in the portfolio, the company needed to expand its development capacity, without losing control or flexibility.
The solution was a dedicated team at Cefalo.
We considered several partners, but Cefalo stood out. It is a great advantage for us that we don’t carry the employer responsibility ourselves. It means less risk and greater flexibility for a startup like ours, says James McRedmond, CTO in Fished.
A strategic model for growth
Fished has its core competence in Norway, but needed more development capacity – and preferably fast. After meeting with Cefalo, the decision was made: A development team in Dhaka could provide both the speed and flexibility they were looking for.
Today, Fished has four developers in Dhaka consisting of a strong team lead together with frontend and backend developers. And the team is expanding this fall, with more developers coming in.
– Working with Cefalo fits well with our strategy as a startup and scaleup. Cefalo offers a long-term solution, and the cost is lower than hiring in Norway. It is a great match, says CTO in Fished, James McRedmond.

SEAMLESS INTEGRATIONS: Fished develops cloud-based, user-friendly software designed for the seafood industry. It simplifies and streamlines processes such as purchasing, sales, inventory management, and invoicing – all in one solution.
An independent and committed team
– They work independently and effectively, even while we sleep, says McRedmond with a smile. He refers to the time difference between Ålesund and Dhaka, resulting in Cefalo’s developers starting their work four hours earlier than the Norwegian team.
The team lead in Dhaka gets particular praise:
– Our team lead Rezwan gathers questions, coordinates the team, and is a key person for us. His style fits us very well and has made the whole collaboration much easier. I was a little surprised at how good he actually was. He guides well and contributes with input and suggestions. We like that kind of culture, where everyone is heard and everything is considered, says McRedmond.
Cefalo in Norway also follows their client closely, something that is appreciated in Ålesund.
– I talk with our contact Per Einar Myklebust at least once a month. He is responsive, and the collaboration works very well, says McRedmond.

A HEALTHY CHALLENGE THAT DRIVES IMPROVEMENT: Having four developers in Dhaka keep Fished on their toes when it comes to dev.ops and planning.
Challenges that drive improvement
Fished is a growing company, and as CTO, James has felt the pressure of keeping four developers engaged on the other side of the globe.
– A Cefalo team in Dhaka requires us to stay ahead with specifications and tasks on our side. It has pushed us to improve our dev.ops and planning, so it’s actually a healthy challenge, he believes.

Stacked for growth
Fished is far from done with development, quite the opposite. They have a clear roadmap and several exciting features coming soon.
– We are growing in several markets, and the collaboration with Cefalo allows us to develop more modules in parallel and deliver to customers faster than planned. It simply gives us growth power, says McRedmond.
